I came to the USA at the age of 17 in 1972 from Hong Kong, and finished with a BBA in Finance and MBA in Accounting from University of Houston. I worked for Coastal Oil & Gas for a few years as a Special Project Accountant. Subsequently, I became a part-owner of a chain of Chinese restaurants in the Houston and Sugar Land area.
I sold all my restaurant business in late 1998, and became a Financial Advisor in 1999, with UBS/PaineWebber. I was fired on 8/21/2001, from the firm because I emailed 73 of my clients and suggested to them to sell part of their concentrated Enron portfolio. Enron's Management got hold of my email, contacted UBS/PaineWebber and demanded my termination. UBS/PaineWebber complied. To read more on this topic, please visit our Additional Resources page.
I was hired 5 days later by A.G. Edwards & Sons of which Wachovia acquired in 2007. Unfortunately, Wachovia was later purchased by Wells Fargo in 2008 due to its grave financial mortgage problems.
Finally, in early 2014, I set up my own company called Chung Wu Investment Group, LLC and became a RIA (Registered Investment Advisor) with my clients' assets placed at the custodian level with Raymond James Financial.
Because of my independent and straight forward character, I have been managing my client's financial assets with their interest as the most important and forefront objective of my mission in this business. Honesty is the only element that bonds my moral fabric in this journey. My practice is all about creating the best asset management platform for my clients in the most transparent way. I research tirelessly for the betterment of my clients' financial future. I will keep improving myself, my team and my practice.
My ultimate goal is to create a Dynamic (re-allocation as often as needed) Absolute (in various market conditions) Total Return (from both income & appreciation) Model so that my clients can travel with me in this investment world at ease and yet productive.
Last of all, I am very thankful for having the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in stepping upon two great cultures: Chinese and USA, to make myself a better person in life.
